Significant hearing loss is a common, major birth defect. If you do not treat your baby's hearing loss right away, they may experience speech, language and intellectual delays, so it's important that they undergo hearing tests as soon as possible. That way, early intervention and treatment can be provided, if needed.
At Columbus Community Hospital, we can perform hearing tests either when your baby is awake or when they are asleep. We test all babies before they leave the hospital and give results to their parents immediately.
If rescreening is necessary, we can make arrangements with you for that screening before you leave the hospital.
