Pain management

No one should have to live with pain. Columbus Community Hospital works closely with you to find pain management solutions tailored to your individual situation.

Pain management services

We can help you manage acute pain with a combination of oral, intravenous and intramuscular medications. The type of medications depends on the severity of the pain and your individual requirements.

We can also help you manage pain from surgical procedures with the latest in nerve block techniques. These techniques, provided by the anesthesia department, identify the nerves that serve the affected surgical area, which are then injected with local anesthetic to provide many hours of postoperative pain relief.

If you have chronic pain problems, your personal physician may give you a referral to a specialty clinic.

When you undergo medical treatment, pain management is likely one of your top priorities. It's very important to us, too, which is why Columbus Community Hospital offers the iovera° treatment, an innovative approach to blocking pain, as part of the hospital's standard of care.

ioveraº treatment

iovera° Now I can.The iovera° treatment is a clinically proven, non-opioid, long-lasting pain management solution that uses the body's natural response to cold to relieve pain. It forms a targeted cold zone surrounding the peripheral nerve tissue to immediately block the nerve from sending pain signals. The system is specifically designed to create a temporary, reversible nerve block through a process called Wallerian degeneration, followed by predictable nerve regeneration.

Patients who received iovera° technology five days before total knee replacement surgery:

  • Requested fewer opioids than patients who did not receive the therapy, but had similar pain scores
  • Experienced less stiffness at six and 12 weeks post-surgery
  • Experienced less knee pain at six and 12 weeks post-surgery

If you are interested in a non-opioid pain management technique, you can learn if the iovera° treatment is right for you.
