What is a wide-bore MRI?

With a larger opening than a typical MRI machine, the wide-bore system gives patients a more comfortable space during their MRI scans. This is particularly helpful for patients who have claustrophobia, pain, a large body size or other issues that can make traditional MRI scans difficult and unpleasant.

The wide-bore MRI system offers patients both the comfort of an open-bore system and the high-quality imaging of a closed-bore system. This new technology provides a better patient experience, premium image quality and reduced exam times.

It's hard to know what's going on inside your body, especially if you feel fine. That's why you should stay up to date on recommended health screenings.

Columbus Community Hospital offers various screenings to help area residents stay healthy, including low-dose CT lung screenings. These checks use minimal radiation to provide a detailed image of patients' lungs. CCH offers low-dose CT lung screenings for qualified people who are at risk of developing lung cancer but not showing symptoms.

To qualify for these screenings, patients must be:

• Referred by their physician
• Between the ages of 50 and 80 years old
• Someone who has a history of smoking at least one pack of cigarettes per day for 20 years, is a current smoker or has quit within the last 15 years

Older Nebraskans are at a higher risk of falls and injuries like broken bones, but a simple test at Columbus Community Hospital can help.

Bone densitometry measures bone mineral content and density. It can indicate decreased bone mass, a condition in which bones are more brittle and prone to break or fracture easily.

This test can determine if you have osteoporosis. It's a simple procedure that uses X-rays to measure the amount of minerals, primarily calcium, in your bones. Early diagnosis and treatment can help lower your risk of breaking your bones.

After your test, the professionals at CCH will work with your doctor to discuss appropriate medication treatments that can improve bone mass or decrease bone loss.
