Steve Wiemer, DDS, MD
Biography
For Steve Wiemer, DDS, MD, there's nothing better than seeing a patient's joy after they receive a dental implant.
"It is incredibly rewarding to see the newfound confidence and joy that comes from restoring someone's ability to smile freely and without hesitation," he said.
Wiemer, who is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Nebraska Oral & Facial Surgery in Columbus, has performed many different kinds of oral surgeries, including corrective jaw and trauma surgery. But dental implants are his biggest passion, he says. "I love restoring people's comfort and confidence in their smile," he said.
When Wiemer was growing up, he always knew he liked science, but fell in love with it during a human physiology class in college. After thinking he wanted to be a dentist, he realized that oral surgery was his calling.
He and his wife, Brittney, came to Columbus in 2021 because they wanted to raise their children close to their families, and in a community with the same values as those in which they grew up.
When Wiemer isn't seeing patients, he enjoys getting out on the golf course with his wife and two children. He also likes spending time with his two dogs, Duke of Merle and Winnie the Poodle.
If he were stranded on a desert island, he says, it would be difficult to decide on one musician to help him keep his sanity, since he enjoys so many different types of music. But ultimately, he says, Tom Petty would be his saving grace.
And what about if he won the lottery? "I would get up and go to work the next day," he said. "I wouldn't change anything!"
