Kipton Anderson, MD
Biography
Family medicine was a natural calling for Kipton Anderson, MD, because he enjoys being able to build long-term relationships with his patients and their families.
"I have been fortunate to be the physician for five generations of the same family at one time!" he said.
Anderson, a Columbus native, returned to live and work here 27 years ago after medical school with his wife, pediatrician Deborah Anderson, MD. He said that he and Deborah both love Nebraska, and found Columbus to be the perfect-sized town in which to live and practice medicine.
As a family practice doctor at Columbus Family Practice, Anderson treats patients of all ages and a wide variety of conditions. "I really enjoy discussing wellness and preventive health," he said, "and feel like it is really making a difference for our patients and our community by preventing and treating chronic diseases and screening for cancer. As wonderful of a hospital as Columbus Community Hospital is, my goal is to keep people out of there!"
In his free time, Anderson enjoys fishing, gardening and spending time at his family’s cabin. He and his wife are both scuba divers and have enjoyed traveling to warm and sunny places in the winter. They hope to be able to travel to Iceland, New Zealand and Antarctica someday.
The Andersons have two children — Kyle, who is a science teacher at Columbus High School, and Katie, who is married and in veterinary school at the Nebraska/Iowa State combined veterinary program. Now empty-nesters, Kipton and Deborah live in the same house they bought in 1997, which he says is "run" by their two cats, Mufassa and Eclipse.
