Kevin Reichmuth, MD
Biography
More than anything else, Dr. Kevin Reichmuth wants people to understand that everyone's job is important, no matter what it is.
"Sometimes there is so much focus on doctors, but they are only a small part of health care," he said.
"Every job matters. Therefore, every individual doing that job matters. No organization can be successful unless it values and supports every component."
Dr. Reichmuth is a pulmonary, critical care and sleep specialist with Nebraska Pulmonary Specialties. The clinic is based in Lincoln, Nebraska, but Dr. Reichmuth sees patients at the Visiting Physicians Clinic in Columbus in an outreach clinic. That's particularly important, as he grew up in Columbus and attended Columbus High School.
"I had always hoped that I could somehow practice back in my community," he said.
He provides both inpatient and outpatient care for a variety of respiratory illnesses like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, lung cancer and many sleep disorders. There's a great need for that kind of care in Columbus — his clinic's schedule is always full.
"Part of the reason why it is so full is because I want to make sure I have enough time for each patient I see," he said.
Dr. Reichmuth is married with four children, three cats and two dogs — because he and his wife couldn't decide if they were "cat people" or "dog people." In his free time, he enjoys exercising, reading and using his smoker.
He says that if he could eat only one thing for the rest of his life, it would be steak. And the author who has influenced him the most is Stephen Ambrose. "I love history," he said, "especially World War II history."
