Biography

Dr. Jared Rickert is passionate about reducing pain. That’s why he chose a career as an orthopedic surgeon — and why he’s always seeking to learn more about new methods for joint replacement.

“There’s nothing like seeing a patient return to the activities they love, pain-free,” he said. “Every case is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.”

Dr. Rickert grew up in Columbus (he’s a Scotus Central Catholic High School graduate), and he returned here to start treating patients at Columbus Community Hospital three years ago. He says his love of science was sparked by excellent teachers at Scotus, and nurtured by having the example of siblings who worked in health care.

“Columbus is where my roots are,” he said, “and practicing at Columbus Community Hospital allows me to give back to the community that has supported me from day one.”

Away from the office, Dr. Rickert is a husband to Stephanie and a busy dad of five children, who range in age from 1 to 10. He also has a few of his own hobbies. “I’m a bit of a nerd — I enjoy playing video games and collecting sports/Pokemon cards with my son whenever I get the chance,” he said. “I’m also a big stock and options investing enthusiast.”

If he won the lottery, Dr. Rickert says, he would love to be able to set up a foundation to support health initiatives in underserved communities. He would also invest in advancing orthopedic care and research … and save just enough so that his family could live comfortably and freely.

If he were stranded on a desert island, he says musician Jack Johnson’s beachy vibes would keep him feeling calm and relaxed. And if he could have dinner with any one person, his No. 1 choice would be Jesus Christ.
