(COLUMBUS, Neb.) – Columbus Community Hospital's Occupational Health Services (OHS) will host a
vital Lunch & Learn event focused on suicide prevention, titled CALM (Conversations on Access to Lethal
Means). This training gives individuals and organizations critical knowledge and tools to safely store
lethal means, such as firearms and medications — especially during times of suicidal crisis.

The CALM training emphasizes creating time and distance between a person in distress and potential
lethal means — a proven strategy for saving lives. It is important to note that this training is not anti-gun
or anti-drug; rather, it is a specific, effective component of suicide prevention designed to benefit
everyone.

The event will take place on Thursday, June 19, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Pawnee room, located in
the first-floor conference center. It will include a complimentary lunch from 11:30 a.m.-noon, which will
be followed by the main presentation. The session will highlight successful lethal means reduction
strategies from other countries, and include opportunities for engaging group discussions to practice
new skills.

We are honored to have Linda Emanuel, BSN, RN, an agricultural health liaison with AgriSafe® Network,
lead this session. Emanuel brings extensive expertise in rural healthcare and mental well-being to this
crucial topic. Her background includes curriculum design and outreach programs serving the holistic
healthcare needs of farmers and ranchers. She also has led projects within the Midwest region for the
Total Farmer Health Coach program and hosted the “Talking Total Farmer Health” podcast.
