(COLUMBUS, Neb.) – Columbus Community Hospital recognized several exceptional employees for their
dedication, compassion and excellence in patient care. These nominees — including winner Cara Wieser,
RN, BSN — represent a wide range of roles across the hospital, but they all share the same unwavering
commitment to serving patients and supporting their colleagues.

“Each of this year’s nominees reflects the very best of Columbus Community Hospital — compassionate
caregivers, skilled professionals and dedicated teammates,” said Michael Hansen, president and CEO of
the hospital. “Their commitment strengthens our hospital and ensures patients and families receive the
highest level of care.”

In addition to Wieser, this year’s nominees included Darianne Sliva, surgical services tech and teacher;
Tammy Kroft, certified phlebotomist; Stephanie Schmidt, LPN II; Chantel Bakenhus, certified surgical
scrub tech; Brian Larson, tech intervention cardiovascular; and Jennie Stockman, Columbus General
Surgery receptionist. Each nominee was honored for professionalism, teamwork and their impact on
patients and families.

Wieser, who works as a nurse in the preadmission clinic, officially received the honor on Sept. 24.

Wieser joined CCH in October 2018 and has since become a cornerstone of the preadmissions team. She
plays a vital role in preparing patients and families for surgery — a time that often brings stress and
uncertainty. Known for her compassion and calm presence, she helps transform moments of anxiety
into reassurance and trust.

“Cara Wieser embodies what it means to care with purpose,” Hansen said. “During moments of stress
and uncertainty, she gives patients and families not just preparation for surgery, but also peace of mind.
Her calm presence, compassion and clinical expertise make her a shining example of our mission in
action.”

Colleagues describe Wieser as both a skilled clinician and a supportive teammate. She stays attentive to
the smallest details, responds quickly during urgent situations and consistently steps in with kindness
and grace. Families rely on her to guide them through the surgical process, coworkers value her steady
presence and patients leave her care not only ready for surgery, but feeling seen and valued.

Her ability to combine clinical expertise with genuine empathy reflects CCH’s mission of caring with
purpose. She advocates for patients’ needs and creates an environment in which both patients and
families feel safe and respected.

“The strength of our hospital lies not in our walls or equipment, but in the people who dedicate their
lives to serving others,” Hansen said. “We are proud to celebrate Cara and every nominee for the
excellence, heart and professionalism they bring to their work each day.”
