Lymphedema therapy

Lymphatic fluid is a bodily fluid that surrounds and supports people’s cells. The lymphatic system includes vessels and lymph nodes that transport the lymphatic fluid. Lymphedema is a swelling of a body part (usually an arm or leg) because of an ineffective or damaged lymph drainage system.

Primary lymphedema is due to congenital (from birth) or hereditary conditions and affects both men and women. Secondary lymphedema is more common and can be caused by some cancer treatments, trauma, injury, surgical procedures that remove or damage lymph vessels and lymph nodes, or scarring. Left untreated, lymphedema can develop into further complications, including serious infections, pain and disability.

In order to receive lymphedema therapy, you first need a referral from your doctor. Our therapists will then evaluate you and develop an effective treatment plan.
