Columbus Community Hospital

Driver Rehabilitation Program

Changes in physical, mental and sensory abilities can create challenges for you that may hamper your ability to drive safely.

The occupational therapists in Columbus Community Hospital’s Driver Rehabilitation Program are trained to recognize the impact medical conditions and the aging process may have on driving performances.

They can provide you with the most advanced training and vehicle modifications so you can drive safely.

Our services

To participate in our Driver Rehabilitation Program, you must be 16 years old or older, have a driver’s license or learner’s permit and suffer from a condition that may impact your driving performance.

Our Driver Rehabilitation Program may benefit people who have:

  • Neurological impairments due to brain injuries, strokes, Parkinson’s or multiple sclerosis (MS).
  • Orthopedic impairments.
  • Amputations.
  • Spinal cord injuries.
  • Memory deficits.
  • Onsets of dementia.
  • Vision impairments.
  • Age-related changes.

Our Driver Rehabilitation Program begins with a two-part evaluation, which includes a clinical portion and an on-the-road session.

Following the evaluation, the occupational therapists may recommend driver retraining sessions and/or vehicle modifications. If driving is no longer recommended, the occupational therapists will discuss other resources for transportation.
