Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation department

When you have a heart event such as a heart attack or coronary bypass surgery, there are two steps to the recovery process: First, your doctors have to treat the immediate, life-threatening problem, and you will need to regain enough function to care for yourself. Then, after you leave the hospital, you will need to learn how to live your life in a heart-healthy way. That’s where rehabilitation comes in.

Cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation programs are designed to help people like you who have experienced major problems with your heart. They also assist people with lung problems, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other respiratory issues.

Columbus Community Hospital’s cardiopulmonary rehabilitation department helps patients with heart and pulmonary disease recover faster and achieve better health. The department includes registered nurses and a respiratory therapist, and its programs offer exercise, education, counseling and support tailored to your abilities, needs and limitations. Staff also can assist you with stress and nuclear stress testing.

Our programs

Columbus Community Hospital’s cardiopulmonary rehabilitation department offers a variety of programs and services to support our community’s cardiac and pulmonary health, including:

  • Cardiac Rehab Program - In the Cardiac Rehab Program, you work with registered nurses, dieticians, respiratory therapists and pharmacists to learn how you can improve your health by exercising, changing your diet and reducing other risk factors for heart disease.
  • Pulmonary Rehab Program - In the Pulmonary Rehab Program, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, dietitians and pharmacists help patients with lung disease learn how to breathe better.
  • Medical Wellness Program - The Medical Wellness Program is a medically supervised exercise program that takes place in the same location as the cardiac and pulmonary rehab programs. You can exercise up to five times per week in this program.

Program certification

AACVPR BadgeThe CCH cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).

Programs that are certified by the AACVPR are recognized as leaders in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation because they offer the most advanced practices available.

AACVPR program certification is the only peer-review accreditation process designed to review individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by AACVPR, as well as other professional societies.

Each program is reviewed by the AACVPR program certification committee, and certification is awarded by the AACVPR board of directors. AACVPR program certification is valid for three years.

We are proud of our team's work each year. For a summary of our accomplishments, please view our 2021-22 Annual Report.
