After graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Doane College in 1993, Doug received his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from Creighton University in 1996 as part of the first class of DPT graduates in the nation. Doug has a wide range of physical therapy experience, not only from the hospital setting, but also from the outpatient, nursing home and home health environments. He has worked in Texas and Nebraska during his career.
Doug first joined CCH’s Rehab Services in 2006 and then was promoted in 2009 to the director of Rehabilitative Services. In this position, he also oversees Premier Physical Therapy, Athletic Training Services and Wiggles & Giggles Therapy for Kids™. Doug was attracted to Columbus Community Hospital because he liked the team environment between therapists, physicians and other health care providers who are committed to providing the best possible care for patients in our community.
He enjoys the specialty areas of joint replacement and orthopedics. He also works with patients with diagnoses such as stroke, cancer, Parkinson’s Disease and other neurologic conditions.
Doug’s goal is to lead CCH’s great team of therapists as they deliver the type of specialized services that people would expect to receive only in the larger population centers of Nebraska.
His vision for the future – of therapists providing more chronic disease preventative care – is being realized since the opening of the Columbus Wellness Center. Rehabilitative Services and Wiggles & Giggles moved into the center in the fall 2015.
Doug lives in Columbus with his wife, Janelle, who is also a physical therapist and their five children. He and his family stay very busy with school, activities, sports and family time. Doug enjoys cycling, hunting, fishing, cooking, every kind of sport, as well as traveling with family and friends.
