Columbus Community Hospital offers on-site aquatic therapy using the latest technology at Rehabilitative Services at the Columbus Wellness Center.
Our therapists have received extensive training through the Aquatic Therapy and Rehab Institute. We can apply the principles of water to achieve optimal functional outcomes for patients with many different conditions.
We can treat patients with orthopedic or neurologic conditions, including those who have experienced:
- Total joint replacement.
- ACL rehab.
- Cerebral palsy.
We also treat patients with:
- Acute or chronic pain conditions, such as arthritis, fibromyalgia and back pain.
- Balance disorders.
- Conditions requiring restricted weight-bearing.
You may benefit from aquatic therapy through slow, controlled trunk and whole-body movement training with ai chi
classes, which our certified staff teach. Aquatic therapy can also be used in post-operative recovery or as an alternative to surgery.
Our aquatic therapists work with you one-on-one and are physically alongside you in the pool. You can then transition to exercise in the YMCA warm water pool, located next to the therapy pool in the Columbus Wellness Center, at the conclusion of your therapy.
Our therapy pools are equipped with distinct workout stations, including plyometric pads, open and closed kinetic exercise benches and steps and an angled running platform.
The pool’s removable floor is adjustable to depths of 38 and 50 inches, which allows for a gradual increase in weight-bearing activities. If you are limited in weight-bearing, the pool’s chairlift system allows you to enter and exit the pool safely.
We can use water current in conjunction with exercise at various stages of the rehabilitation program to help you progress from limited weight-bearing activities to more functional and strengthening protocols.
Our therapy pools are also equipped with an underwater treadmill, which allows you to walk or run against an adjustable current in a weight-reduced environment.
Private changing rooms and lockers are available.
Read what one patient has to say about his experience with CCH’s aquatic therapy:
“When I went in there, I was having a little rough time walking and trouble breathing and they got me got me back on track … The personnel, the people, everybody was so kind and so good … It’s fantastic.”
- Chuck Ferris, aquatic therapy participant
