Aquatic Therapy
Columbus Community Hospital offers on-site aquatic therapy using the latest technology at Rehabilitative Services at the Columbus Wellness Center.
The program’s therapists have received extensive training through the Aquatic Therapy and Rehab Institute. They can apply the principles of water to achieve optimal functional outcomes for patients with the following:
Orthopedic or neurologic conditions, including individuals who have experienced:
- Total joint replacement
- ACL rehab
- Parkinson's
- Stroke
- Cerebral palsy
Acute or chronic pain conditions and syndromes, including:
- Arthritis
- Fibromyalgia
- Back pain
Balance disorders
Conditions requiring restricted weight-bearing
Some patients benefit from aquatic therapy through slow, controlled truck and whole-body movement training with exercises called Ai Chi, which are taught by our certified staff. Aquatic therapy can also be used in post-operative recovery or as an alternative to surgery.
CCH's aquatic therapists work with patients one-on-one and are physically alongside patients in the pool. A patient can then transition to exercise in the YMCA warm water pool located next to the therapy pool in the Columbus Wellness Center at the conclusion of their therapy.
Our Services
CCH’s therapy pools are equipped with distinct workout stations, including plyometric pads, open and closed kinetic exercise benches and steps, as well as an angled running platform.
The pool’s removable floor is adjustable to depths of 38 and 50 inches, which allows for a gradual increase in weight-bearing activities. For patients who are limited in weight-bearing, the pool’s chairlift system allows them to enter and exit the pool safely.
Water current can be used in conjunction with exercise at various stages of the rehabilitation program to create the ideal environment for helping patients progress from limited weight-bearing activities to more functional and strengthening protocols.
CCH’s therapy pools are also equipped with an underwater treadmill which allows patients to walk or run against an adjustable current in a weight-reduced environment.
Private changing rooms and lockers are available.
