With most Nebraska hospitals losing money on operations, officials look to lawmakers

Nebraska hospitals are facing severe financial challenges, with 51% of state hospitals, and 59% of rural hospitals, operating at a negative margin due to rising labor costs and inflation. The Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) supports the proposed Hospital Quality Assurance and Access Assessment Act, which would provide approximately $1 billion in Medicaid funding without burdening taxpayers. This legislation aims to stabilize hospital finances, allowing them to continue essential services. Columbus Community Hospital’s vice president of finance, Chad Van Cleave, emphasized the potential positive impact on the hospital's bottom line, helping to sustain operations and make long-term investments.
