Columbus Surgery Center has introduced advanced digital surgery technology called Ngenuity, aimed at enhancing both patient care and surgeon comfort. Unlike traditional cataract surgery where surgeons use microscopes, the Ngenuity system replaces the microscope's binoculars with a camera, allowing surgeons to operate while sitting ergonomically and viewing a 3D screen. This setup reduces physical strain on surgeons and helps maintain high surgical standards.
The system also enables the operating room staff to view the surgery through 3D glasses, improving teamwork and patient care. Funded by the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation, Ngenuity is currently available in only a few locations in Nebraska, making it a significant advancement for the local community. The technology is expected to attract new ophthalmologists and further enhance the surgery center’s capabilities.
