Economic Impact Report

Columbus Community Hospital does more than just provide health care services. Through a combination of traditional health care services, fitness and wellness programs, telehealth technology and community partnerships, CCH’s commitment to health extends far beyond the hospital walls.

CCH also offers a variety of health and wellness events to help community members live their healthiest lives, and further supports community members with services such as the CCH Child Care Center. Through these services, and the high-quality jobs CCH provides, the hospital also has a positive economic impact on the overall fiscal health of the community.

A recent analysis by the Heartland Health Alliance breaks down CCH’s economic impact through its:

• Direct Impact: The direct impact CCH has on the state of Nebraska through its services, including the jobs and taxes it generates and its net revenue.
• Indirect Impact: The impact CCH has on jobs and wages created in other (downstream) industries that support CCH’s operations, such as contractors, linen services, hotels, etc.
• Induced Impact: The impact CCH’s direct and downstream employees have in the community based on their spending at local restaurants, in real estate and insurance, etc.

The analysis found that in the area of direct impact, CCH provided 944 jobs, created $169,474,680 in revenue and generated $3,063,000 in state and local taxes. In the area of indirect impact, CCH provided 371.6 jobs, created $68,256,262 in revenue and generated $2,156,533 in state and local taxes. In the area of induced impact, CCH provided 434.1 jobs, created $79,381,623 in revenue and generated $4,167,699 in state and local taxes.

These areas are combined to create the hospital’s total impact, which includes providing more than 1,749 jobs, creating approximately $317 million in revenue and generating more than $9.3 million in state and local taxes.
