“Tune Up For Life” Health Fair Slated for Columbus
Columbus, NE (December, 2010) – Area residents have the opportunity to start the new year down a healthier road by attending the seventh annual “Tune Up For Life” health fair. Free and discounted health screenings will be available. The event is being held from 7:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8 at the Columbus Family YMCA, 2200 28th Avenue.
A collaborative effort by several area businesses and companies who have subsidized the event has helped provide low cost health screenings. Screenings being offered at reduced cost include:
• Extensive Wellness Laboratory Profile - $35
• Prostate Specific Antigen Laboratory - $45
• Seasonal flu shots - $20 (Medicare billing available)
• Colo-rectal Cancer Screening - $5
• BryanLGH Mobile Screening Services – non-invasive ultrasound/heart screening - $40
Screenings offered free of charge include: blood pressure, body composition, bone mineral density, cardiovascular fitness, hearing, musculoskeletal, peripheral artery disease, pulmonary function, and vision.
The National Kidney Association will also provide a free health screening for people at risk of kidney disease, anyone with diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of kidney disease.
The health fair is being sponsored by Columbus Community Hospital, BD, The Columbus Telegram, Time Warner Cable, Three Eagles Communications and other area businesses.
No appointment is necessary for the fair, but participants are encouraged to fast for 12 hours prior to attending. To stay hydrated, attendees are encouraged to continue their water intake. For more information, call Krista Beiermann from Occupational Health Services at 402-562-4484.
