Heather Kroll Receives Pharmacy Technician Certification
Heather Kroll, NE-CPhT, with Columbus Community Hospital’s pharmacy, recently received her pharmacy technician certification.
She received the certification in January after completing a three-month online course through the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The course included exams, as well as a skills lab. Passing the course provides pharmacy technician certification for Kroll in the state of Nebraska.
Pharmacy technician certification has been required by law since January 1, 2016. For new technicians, the certification must be obtained within 12 months of their date of hire.
“Completing the certification training provides a good base of pharmacy practice knowledge,” said Julie Baumgart, RP, director of pharmacy at CCH. “It covers topics in law, ethics, patient interactions, pharmacy practice workflow and calculations.”
In addition to her three-month required course, Kroll also completed elective courses in sterile compounding and non-sterile compounding and repackaging.
“This training is valuable as the sterile compounding activities are a critical pharmacy activity and comprise a significant portion of a hospital pharmacy tech’s daily activity,” said Baumgart.
