Family Practice Doctor Connects with the Community
Michelle Sell, M.D., a family practice doctor with Columbus
Family Practice, grew up on a farm in northeastern Nebraska. She understands
the dynamics of a close-knit community where family, friends and neighbors
depend on each other through every stage of life. “Rural medicine was all I
knew, and I knew I wanted to be a doctor early on,” she said.
Dr. Sell graduated from the University of Nebraska College of
Medicine in 2006 and did her family medicine residency in Omaha. She then practiced
in Central City, Nebraska, and was named Young Physician of Year by the
Nebraska Medical Association in 2015. “In addition to working in a clinic
setting, I’ve had experience seeing patients in the ER and hospital settings as
well,” Dr. Sell added. She is board-certified by the American Board of Family
Medicine and is a fellow with the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Helping Families Live Healthier
Dr. Sell joined Columbus Family Practice in July 2017. As a
family practice doctor, she takes care of people of all ages in the clinic. “I enjoy
getting to know families and taking care of multiple generations of family
members,” Dr. Sell said.
In addition to taking regular appointments, she sees fast-track
patients who drop in for minor illnesses and injuries. “The clinic has extended
hours to make it easier for patients to get here to see us,” Dr. Sell said.
“The goal is to keep people well, and we can be creative with how
we deliver health care to help our patients live healthier,” Dr. Sell said.
Columbus Family Practice has expanded its services to include social work, diabetes
education and nutrition therapy to meet the needs of patients.
Loving Life in Columbus
Moving to Columbus has been a great fit for Dr. Sell’s family. “The
timing was perfect for my family to relocate. Everything lined up to make the move
from Central City an easy transition,” Dr. Sell said. Her husband, Dale, works
in the local school system, and their children, ages four, eight and nine, keep
them on their toes with swimming lessons, basketball league, Cub Scouts and
dance class. This year, the family is hosting a 17-year-old foreign exchange
student from Italy. “We’re getting a glimpse of what it’s like to raise a
teenager!” Dr. Sell said.
Dr. Sell and her family love going on adventures and taking road
trips off the beaten path. They enjoy music, concerts and sports. She added, “We’re
also big Huskers fans!”
