Columbus Community Hospital named Blue Distinction® Center+ for Maternity Care
Columbus Community Hospital (CCH) has been named a Blue Distinction® Center+ for Maternity Care.
This honor is based on a thorough, objective evaluation of a hospital’s performance in the areas that matter most—quality care, treatment expertise and overall patient outcomes. Blue Distinction Centers+ also offer affordable care.
This designation is part of Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Blue Distinction® Specialty Care Program, which also recognizes hospitals that show expertise in providing improved patient safety and better health outcomes.
“It’s confirmation that we’re doing what’s right and best for our patients and that we deliver the highest-quality care,” said Kim Eisenmann, director of CCH’s Maternal Child Health Department.
The Blue Distinction® program isn’t unique to maternity care. Since 2006, the Blue Distinction® Specialty Care program has helped patients find quality specialty care in the areas of bariatric surgery, knee and hip replacements, cancer care, cardiac care and spine surgery and transplants.
Not only does the program help patients find quality specialty care, it also encourages health care professionals to improve the care they deliver.
“If you’re coming to our hospital, you can expect to receive excellent care,” Eisenmann said. “We’ve got great nurses with tons and tons of experience in labor care, postpartum, newborn nursery and Level II neonatal intensive care.”
The Blue Distinction® for Maternity Care also evaluates hospitals on the percentage of newborns who fall into the category of early elective delivery, which is an ongoing concern in the medical community.
“With maternal/fetal outcomes and maternal morbidity and mortality being a key focus of the health care system today, this award shows that we strive to provide the best care to the patients in our community,” said Nicholas Wulf, DO, obstetrician and gynecologist for Columbus Women’s Healthcare.
With nearly four million babies born in the U.S. annually and hundreds delivered at CCH each year, staff at CCH are proud to be recognized for the hard work they put into caring for these newborns and their mothers.
“This recognition shows that we are putting quality into action by meeting rigorous quality metrics in all phases of our maternity care program and ultimately, delivering better care for our patients and the community,” Dr. Wulf said.
