in the future of Local Health Care
Columbus Community Hospital Foundation received a
$5000 donation from the Eagles Aerie and Auxiliary to fund scholarships
for Columbus Community Hospital employees employed in the Radiology
Department or who plan to pursue a career in radiology.
The donation was presented by Evelyn Harral of Columbus,
Eagles past international officer and current Columbus Auxiliary
secretary, to Carol Keller, Columbus Community Hospital Foundation
Executive Director during the Eagles West Central Regional Conference,
held in Columbus earlier this month. “We are very appreciative
of the continued generosity and support by the Fraternal Order of
Eagles,” said Keller. “We commend the Eagles for their
many good works in the community and pledge to put this generous
contribution to good use by helping train future radiology health
care providers.”
The contribution will be added to the permanent Fraternal
Order of Eagles Endowment, which was started in 2006. Interest generated
will be used to fund one or more radiology scholarships for employees
of the Hospital.
For more than a century, the Fraternal Order of Eagles has had a
major positive influence on their region, nation, world and most
importantly, their communities. The Eagles have provided support
for medical centers across the country to build and provide research
for medical conditions. They raise millions of dollars every year
to combat heart disease and cancer, help handicapped children, uplift
the aged and make life a little brighter for everyone. The Eagles
are “People helping People.” To learn more, call 402.564.3361

with the number increasing of uninsured and underinsured patients,
the Hospital needs to build its endowments to ensure that we can
continue to provide the very best in health care for this area,”
said Keller. “We sincerely appreciate the support that we
have received from the Fraternal Order of Eagles and from all of
our donors.” Contact the Foundation at 402.563.3377 or cmkeller@columbushosp.org

Generous donation by the Sunderland Foundation
helps increase employee parking at Columbus Community Hospital
Columbus Community Hospital Foundation recently received
a $25,000 grant from the Sunderland Foundation of Overland Park,
Kansas to expand employee parking. Carol Keller, Columbus Community
Hospital Foundation Executive Director accepted the donation from
Kent Sunderland, Sunderland Foundation President and Vice Chairman
– Ash Grove Cement Company.
The Sunderland Foundation grant will be used to finance additional
parking north of the Hospital. In recent years, the Hospital has
experienced a significant increase in the number of patients seeking
treatment. In order to handle more patients, the number of Hospital
staff members has also grown from 429 to 517 in just nine years,
resulting in a parking shortage.
The Sunderland Foundation was established in 1945
by Lester T. Sunderland, who served as president of the Ash Grove
Cement Company for 33 years. For more than six decades, the Foundation
– which is still managed by Lester T. Sunderland’s descendents
– has focused on supporting bricks and mortar projects, awarding
grants to nonprofits in the Kansas City region and other areas where
the Ash Grove Cement Company does business.
The Foundation prefers to make grants for capital
and special projects, including building construction, renovation,
repairs and restoration of facilities. Areas of interest include
higher education, youth serving agencies, health facilities, community
buildings, museums, civic projects, and low maintenance, energy
efficient housing projects sponsored by qualified tax-exempt organizations.

The Columbus Community Hospital Foundation accepts
contributions of any amount in support of programs, equipment, endowments
and capital needs. “We are extremely grateful to the Sunderland
Foundation for its assistance in helping to resolve our parking
shortage,” Keller said. “Generous contributions from
all our donors, including the Sunderland Foundation, help us provide
the very best in health care for this area.” Contact the Columbus
