Brandenburg Nominated for March of Dimes Award
Kim Brandenburg, BSN, RN was nominated for the 2012 March of Dimes Excellence in Nursing Award and honored at the Presentation in Omaha on November 1st. A presentation was made at the Hospital on November 12th by Mary Larsen, Director of Program Services for the Nebraska Chapter of the March of Dimes. Nurses from across the state are nominated based on leadership and contributions that have made an impact on their community and the profession of nursing.
In 2006, Kim began working in the Emergency Department and has served as the Trauma Coordinator since 2010.
Through Kim’s leadership, the Hospital has been designated as a training site for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). She has taught many of the classes herself and has also trained a group of instructors.
Kim initiated the Trauma Nurse Core Class (TNCC) and has taught the class for the past four years, allowing the Hospital to train nurses on site and improve the quality of the Hospital’s trauma program. Providing the program locally that has served both Columbus Community Hospital and surrounding hospitals has resulted in significant cost savings for these facilities.
Sue Deyke, Emergency Department Director and Kim’s team leader nominated Kim for the award. “Kim has been an asset to the facility,” says Deyke. “She works daily to improve patient care.”
